Murphy Goode Merlot

In Store Special

This is not your run of the mill wimpy Merlot. It's sourced from bench and hillside vineyards, where the grapes struggle in character-building conditions. The result is more concentrated, intense fruit and, by extension, a more concentrated and intense wine. In it, you'll find blackberry, bay and thyme flavors combined with abundant and rich tannins, all on top of the signature soft, silky Merlot texture.

Kunde Cabernet Sauvignon

Crown Card Special

Bold, fresh, and delicious are the watchwords for Kunde Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. It's deep ruby color immediately tells you this is one to take seriously. Black cherry scents are followed by rich, mouth-filling flavors of blackberries and dark chocolate, with just a touch of chalky tannins at the end to tell you it's still a youngster. This wine will be at home with the classic complements to Cabernet: grilled steak and prime rib, but will also readily take to pasta with tomato-based sauces. Dinner just got better already!

Rosenblum Zin Cuvee

Crown Card Special

In the late 60’s and early 70’s a veterinarian by the name of Dr. Kent Rosenblum had a hobby. He liked fermenting grapes. He also liked to drink wine. And most of the wine he drink that other people made seemed to always have something wrong with it. With that said, he began to make wine that suited his taste. It just happens that his taste suited a lot more of us than he could imagine. So in 1978, after years of making wine out of his home, Kent Rosenblum and several close friends decided to take their passionate hobby to the next level. Next to “The Dead End Bar” in Oakland, California, which use to be a prohibition speakeasy, Rosenblum and his friends founded the original home of Rosenblum Cellars. From there it evolved into a world-class winery, producing award-winning zinfandel, cabernet sauvignon, merlot and chardonnay, as well as up-and-coming Rhône varietals such as syrah, petite syrah, Mourvèdre, Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne. This Vintners Cuvee XXVII has lovely, bright jammy cherry and raspberry fruit with hints of black pepper and spice. It is a very friendly, drinkable, zesty Zinfandel that goes well with pasta, barbecue meats, poultry, and Italian and Mediterranean foods.

Toasted Head Chardonnay

In-Store Special

Taste. Aromas of cherry, leather and clove give way to a rich palate featuring the ripe, soft tannins for which the Alexander Valley is known. Raspberry and cassis fruit mingle with complex notes of spice and smoke. The finish is soft, spicy and long.

Vintage. Alexander Valley, in Sonoma County, is famed for its cabernet sauvignon. It boasts an ideal climate for this varietal: warm, sunny days and cool nights, which produce winegrapes with depth and complexity of flavors.

Winemaking. The juice was cold-soaked at 55º F for 24 hours before being inoculated with D254, then fermented in stainless steel at 85º F for 7 to 10 days, after which the wines underwent malolactic fermentation.

Producer. This is the second vintage for the Toasted Head Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, a companion to our Russian River Valley Chardonnay. Toasted Head wines were introduced in 1995. The name comes from the process of toasting the heads and staves of the oak barrels for the mellow oak tones it imparts to the wine. The striking label features
artist Robert Shetterly's drawing of a fire-breathing bear.

Estancia Cab Sauv

Crown Card Special

Estancia Cabernet Sauvignon California is a fairly light and fruity red wine that has some nice flavors and is easy to drink. When poured into the glass the wine has a medium red and purple color, but does not appear concentrated. When swirled and sniffed nice black cherry-like aromas are elicited; the aroma is very pleasing.

When tasted, the aroma reminds one again of cherries and also some plum-like flavors are found. The flavors are not powerful, but the fruit is noticeable. According to the label, the wine was aged for 15 months in American oak casks, but there is really not much oak or vanilla like flavoring in the wine. The 13.5% alcohol makeup translates into a nice hint of sweetness on the tongue and there is just a hint of tannin on the aftertaste (tannin is what often makes a red wine tasted "rough" or astringent). Altogether, although not a powerful and concentrated red wine, it is pleasantly fruity and slightly sweet, and is easy to drink.

Chalone Monterey Pinot Noir

Crown Card Special

The grapes for the Monterey County Pinot Noir come from the coastal foothill regions in the Salinas Valley. In the cellar the winery work hard to maintain the character and richness of this wonderful fruit. The wine features rich aromas of tart black cherries with hints of both clove and nutmeg. Ripe flavors of raspberries and cola follow on the palate. A small amount of Petite Sirah adds richness, giving the wine additional weight. This is a full-bodied wine with balanced acidity and a supple mouthfeel. It has the elegance to work well with turkey or other fowl, meaty fish like tuna or salmon, and pasta with a creamy wild mushroom sauce.

Red Truck Red

Crown Card Special

The Red Truck California Red is a fairly dry, full-bodied red wine that has both marked acidity and medium tannins. The flavors up front are dominated by the same berries that appear in the nose then finishes dry with a bit of pepper. There is also a bit of smoke in there plus something akin to Worcestershire sauce. This Red Truck California Red works unusually well cold for such a dry wine which will probably make it appealing during warm weather and outdoor cooking.
